How I met Charlie

I first met Charlie when he came into the jewelry store where I was helping out a friend.  He came in to  have a ring made in honor of his wife Betty.  He would tell me stories of how he and Betty met and their wonderful life together.  Charlie and I became friends very quickly.  I was new to PA.  Originally from CT my parents had many friends who lived in Tarrytown and Charlie and I would talk about places I had visited there in my childhood.  I also rescued a dog at a diner in Tarrytown and Charlie told me he knew the diner well.  Charlie would take walks from his home to my home on Green Pond Road which was a good mile or so.  He would tap on my mailbox, I would wave to him, and he would head home.,  There were times I would bring him bottled water as it was very hot out and he would say, oh Randi, I'm a young man.   I don't need water.  That was Charlie.....When he told me his age I made him show me his driver's license to prove it, as he looked so young and had the energy of a teenager.   He became very dear to  me in such a short period of time. I wish I had met Charlie sooner but just in our brief friendship he touched me deeply in so many ways.....He will be missed by me but I was honored to call Charlie my friend.....Rest in Peace Charlie.......
