Obituary for William Lee

William  Lee
William Lane Lee, Sr., the son of the late Loubet and Lavinia (Lane) Lee, ”slipped away to that beautiful home of the soul” Saturday Morning, September 29, 2018 surrounded by family at his residence, which is where he was born 88 years ago on March 27, 1930. He was a member of The Cathedral Church of the Nativity where he was a member of the Men & Boys Choir, the YPF group, pinsetter for bowlers at the church, as well as an usher until his health prevented him from serving. He was awarded the DeSaules Medal, an honor bestowed on choir members.
William’s education began in New York City, then returned to Pennsylvania where he attended Madison Elementary School, Broughal Junior High School, graduating from Liberty High School Class of 1949. He received one of four Senatorial Scholarships in 1949 to Lincoln University, located in Oxford, PA. He graduated from Lincoln University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1953. Unable to find employment he enrolled in Accounting at Bethlehem Business School.
His first employment was with Valley Motor Parts as a bookkeeper. Following the Civil Rights Act of 1964 he was hired by Bethlehem Steel Corporation as a Cost Accountant. These were dark and difficult times.
William was an avid bowler in several leagues in the Lehigh Valley, a member of Bethlehem NAACP and served the City of Bethlehem as a member of the Fire Commission.

Survivors: William married Esther M. Grimes, and they celebrated a beautiful life together for 62 years. He leaves to mourn, in addition to his wife, William L, Jr. (Lisa) and Jessica L; two grandsons,

Memorial Services: Relatives and friends are invited to attend his service on Friday, October 5, 2018, 6:30 pm, at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity, 321 Wyandotte Street, Bethlehem, PA. Arrangements entrusted to JAMES FUNERAL HOME, Bethlehem. More info at www.jamesfuneralhome.org
